Final Thoughts

Wow! I can hardly believe my time in the school is almost over! Today was my last day to teach my unit. I really had a lot of fun teaching measurement to my students and they really seemed to enjoy the activities. I learned a lot from this experience. It really helped me to see how it is in the classroom. I also learned some new ways to help with classroom management. I was amazed at how much the students have learned over these past two weeks. Today we reviewed and I was so pleased to hear them popping off answers, explaining things, and making connections to the real world. I will really miss them! They are great students! My classroom teacher is also great! She allowed me to do all kinds of great hands on activities even if they were a bit messy! I really enjoyed this field experience and I' m glad that I have one more week to spend with my students! I hope everyone else is having a great time too! I'm excited to hear about everyone's field experience and to see everyone one again soon!

Measurement Unit

Hello everyone!
I hope everyone is having a great time in their field experience class! Due to MCT2 testing I bumped my unit up a week. I started the unit Monday. Everything is going really well, so far we have learned length in the English standard and metric system. We have been doing a lot of measurement in the classroom to help us understanding how important measurement is and how much we use measurement in the real world. The students really enjoyed measuring each others heights and recording the information as a bar graph on a poster board. But most of all they enjoyed measuring my height and realizing that they were as tall as me even though they are fourth graders and i'm an adult! I don't think they will ever forget that lesson or that they were as tall as the student teacher!! :) For the rest of this week we will be learning about weight and capacity with some fun hands-on activities and experiments! I'm excited to see how much the students will learn from these experiences. I can't wait to hear about everyone's experiences and unit ideas in the weeks to come! Hope you fun!

Field Experience Reflection

Wow! Time is flying. I can't believe this is my second week in the schools. Things are going great! I have a 4th grade inclusion class and there is never, ever a dull moment! I taught my first prior lesson Monday on multiplication. I used one of the games that we learned in Mrs. Fancher's class, multiplication wrestling. The students really enjoyed the game and did not want to stop playing it. I teach my next lesson tomorrow and i'm very excited about it. This lesson will be on rounding and estimation. I have also identified and have  started working on my unit topic. The topic is measurement. However, because the students are so busy studying for the MCT2 test I plan to make the unit a geography theme to incorporate some social studies into the class. I'm very excited about the unit and all the great information I have found. For anyone else that maybe working on measurement I found this great website. Its actually a blog post of a teacher. She has really great activities that can be used to teach all different types of measurement. The website is http://nerdyteacherconfessions.edublogs.org/tag/4th-grade-measurement-unit/. I hope everyone else is having a great experience in their class as well!
